How Can I Tell If I’m Pregnant?

Early Signs to Look For

If you’re wondering whether you might be pregnant, it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions—uncertainty, hope, worry, or all of the above. You’re not alone. Taking a moment to learn the early signs of pregnancy can give you some peace of mind.

Every woman’s experience is different. You might notice only a few of these symptoms—or have some that are completely unique to you.

Here are some early symptoms to look for:

1. Missed or lighter period A missed period is often one of the first signs of pregnancy. Some women may also notice light spotting (similar to a very light period), as the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterus.

2. Feeling more tired than usual Feeling extra tired or run down can also be an early symptom, caused by early pregnancy hormones.

3. Nausea If you’re feeling sick or throwing up for no apparent reason, it could be morning sickness—which can actually happen at any time of day. It’s another common early sign and is linked to hormonal changes.

4. Breast tenderness Your breasts may feel sore, heavy, or more sensitive than usual. You might also notice more subtle changes like darker nipples.

5. Needing to urinate more often You may find yourself going to the bathroom more frequently. This is another normal response to both hormonal changes and the uterus expanding, putting pressure on your bladder.

To get a little more clarity, take a pregnancy test. A positive result is usually accurate. If you get a negative result but still feel like you might be pregnant, you might want to test again in a week or talk with a healthcare provider.
